Frequently Asked Questions

Find answers to common questions about selling military photographs, archives, historical documents, and military memorabilia with Britannic Auctions.

How do I sell inherited military memorabilia?

Many of our consignors inherited military photographs, documents, albums, letters, or historical memorabilia from a parent, grandparent, or other relative.

Simply submit photographs and basic information through our evaluation form. Britannic Auctions will review the material and determine whether it may be a good fit for auction.

What types of military memorabilia does Britannic Auctions accept?

Britannic Auctions primarily focuses on military photographs, photograph albums, historical documents, correspondence, posters, manuscripts, archives, and other paper-based military collectibles.

We are particularly interested in Civil War material, Abraham Lincoln ephemera, Matthew Brady photography, World War I collections, World War II photograph albums, D-Day material, military correspondence, and historically significant archives.

Does Britannic Auctions Accept Weapons, Firearms, Uniforms, or Military Equipment?

No. Britannic Auctions primarily focuses on military photographs, documents, archives, correspondence, posters, and other paper-based historical material. We do not accept firearms, weapons, knives, bayonets, uniforms, helmets, military equipment, or large artifacts.

If you're unsure whether your material is appropriate for auction, submit photographs through our evaluation form and our team will review it.

Can I consign a single item, or do I need a large collection?

Both are welcome for review.

Britannic Auctions evaluates individual items, small groups, and large collections. While historically significant pieces may be appropriate for auction on their own, collections, archives, and photograph albums often generate the strongest collector interest.

How much do I keep after my item sells?

Britannic Auctions operates on a straightforward flat 20% seller commission.

Consignors keep 80% of the final hammer price with no hidden seller fees. If your material is accepted for auction, all commission terms are clearly explained before consignment begins.

Why sell military memorabilia through an auction instead of selling it myself?

Military collectibles often attract specialized collectors who actively compete for desirable material. By presenting consignments to a targeted audience of collectors, historians, researchers, and institutions, Britannic Auctions helps sellers reach buyers who understand the historical significance of the material.

For many consignors, this provides a simpler and more efficient alternative to individually researching, listing, marketing, negotiating, and shipping items themselves.

Have Additional Questions?
