Who Was Robert Albo?
Robert Albo (1932–2011) lived a pretty remarkable double life. By profession he was a respected surgeon and longtime team physician for both the Oakland Raiders and Golden State Warriors. Away from medicine, however, he pursued a lifelong fascination with magic.
Over decades, Albo assembled one of the finest collections of magic apparatus ever formed, eventually numbering in the thousands of pieces. His research found its way into the Classic Magic With Apparatus series, which remains a standard reference for collectors and historians today.
In 1994, much of Albo's collection was acquired by David Copperfield, whose own collection of magic history is among the largest in private hands.
