A "Jolly" Vintage Halloween Postcard
Titled "A Jolly Halloween", this vintage Halloween postcard dates to circa 1910. It is a "mechanical" card, meaning that the postcard has a movement or function to it. In this case, the little African American boy hides his face with a big jack o'lantern, and when his arm is moved, his smiling face is revealed. From series #1236.
The beautiful artwork was done by artist Ellen Clapsaddle, a major name in antique postcards. Clapsaddle created very similar artwork of other children for this particular mechanical postcard series as well.
