About the Creator: Jeremiah Rich
Jeremiah Rich was a 17th century English stenographer, credited with pioneering shorthand writing.
Trained by his uncle, William Cartwright, Rich became a prominent practitioner. Noted for his Semography and Charactery works, he claimed authorship but later acknowledged Cartwright’s original system.
Posthumously, the Cartwright-Rich shorthand gained recognition, with editions published well into the 18th century.
Rich’s shorthand, admired by John Locke, had widespread use, even becoming mandatory at Philip Doddridge’s academy. In addition to this New Testament, Rich also published a stenographic version of the Psalms.
