A Twice-Signed Copy of "POPism: The Warhol' 60s" by Andy Warhol and Pat Hackett
Signed by Andy Warhol on the front cover, and again on the interior including an inscription "to Julie with love", with an added "vagina" drawing beneath the signature. Britannic Auctions sold this book for $553.
The book is accompanied by a signed letter by the consignor describing her meeting with Warhol. Julie writes:
"I was working as a copywriter at Sakowitz in Houston in the early 1980s. One day on my lunch break, I set out to do some shopping on the second floor. Andy Warhol had been invited to have a book signing for 'POPism' - part of a promotional festival of some kind. As I came down the escalator to the first floor, there he was, sitting alone at a table with a stack of books. This was simply not acceptable!
I rushed to the table, introduced myself and bought a book. He asked my name and inscribed it to me - with his signature making me part of the amazing Warhol legacy."
"POPism: The Warhol 60s"
"POPism" isn't just a biography of Andy Warhol; it's also a firsthand account of the cultural zeitgeist that defined the 1960s. Written by Warhol himself along with Pat Hackett, the book provides insights into the artist's philosophy, his interactions with fellow artists and celebrities, and the evolution of his iconic style.
